Dimitri (Pete) Contostavlos

May 10, 1930 - November 6, 2017
Born in Athens, Greece
Resided in Sunnyvale, California

Dimitri (Pete) Contostavlos passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 6th. He will be terribly missed and remembered for his gentle love and deep devotion to his family.
Pete was born in Athens, Greece in 1930 as the oldest of three children. He moved to New York as a college senior and went on to attend the University of Alabama. He met his wife Zena on a blind date and moved back to New York to be close to her. He went on to graduate from the University of Columbia with a degree in engineering. He relocated his family to California in 1962 with a job opportunity with Western Electric and moved up in the ranks of management until he retired in 1981, after celebrating 30 years with the company.
Pete was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was a great role model and had a genuine interest and care for people. When he talked about his family, he would beam with pride. He taught us to be grateful and to embrace life — even when it presented challenges. He was the life of the party yet also sincere, sweet, dapper and charming; a real gentleman.
Pete was active in the Sunnyvale Presbyterian church where he served as an ordained Deacon and was a member of the Dolphin marinership. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Zena, his parents (Peter and Orsaki), brother (Alex), sister (Anna) and son-in-law (Michael Macres). He is survived by his son Peter (Laura) Contostavlos, daughters Irene Macres and Diana (George) Andrews, grandchildren Christina (Evan) Cartal, Mikie Macres, Alex and Meg Andrews and great granddaughter Emily Cartal.
We love and appreciate all you’ve done for us, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa! We’ll miss you forever. “How lucky are we to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” - Winnie the Pooh.
