Obituary

In memory of George Git Hung Yee, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. George lived a wonderful, long life and passed away peacefully on September 5, 2018, surrounded by his family at the age of 85.

Born June 18, 1933 in Honolulu, Hawaii, George was the second eldest of 6 children born to Yau Yin Lum and Kai Ping Yee. George went to China with his parents at age 4 where he lived for 10 years before returning back to Hawaii at age 14. He attended McKinley High School in Hawaii and, after graduation, joined the US Coast Guard to serve his country. While on duty, he had the opportunity to travel throughout the Pacific Northwest, Southern States and Pacific Islands. In 1959, George married his wife, Janet in Hawaii. They moved to California in 1961 and established their roots in Sunnyvale.

George worked for Varian in Palo Alto for a brief period. Shortly after, he found a job closer to home in Sunnyvale working for the City of Sunnyvale as a Jr. Civil Engineer doing land surveying work throughout the city for 32 years. He retired in 1994.

George loved the outdoors and doing Chinese exercises. For the last 40 years, he would go to Ponderosa Park every morning to do tai chi and heong gong exercises. He loved his succulent garden and spent many hours tending to his plants. He also loved hiking and was a member of the Metro ED Hiking group. He enjoyed exploring the trails of the Bay Area Regional Parks.

His greatest joy in life was his family. He was always ready and willing to help them in any way. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing with them and teaching them new things. George exemplified and instilled love, respect, kindness, and humility in all of us. We are all better people for having had George in our lives.

George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet, his 4 daughters: Cindy (Ekkehard), Susan (Barry), Betty (Corey), and Sandra (Scott), and 10 grandchildren who will all continue to love him dearly. We will miss his warm smile and easy going aloha spirit.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, September 14th at 11:00 AM at the LIMA & CAMPAGNA SUNNYVALE MORTUARY, 1315 Hollenbeck Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94087 with burial immediately following. Casual or aloha attire.
