Obituary

John Jerome Valente passed away peacefully at his home in San Jose on Tuesday November 20, 2018. He was 100 years old at time of passing. John was born December 1, 1917 in San Jose. He graduated from Santa Clara high school in 1939. John married his childhood sweetheart, Marge Louise Maggiore and they celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary August 3, 2018. Three years after getting married, John received word that his brother, Richard Valente, was killed in the war while serving on the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. Without hesitation, John enlisted in the US Navy on October 26, 1942, serving on the Pacific Tour. He served on the USS Thuben (AKA-19) during World War II until October 15, 1945. He held several ranks and earned the rank of Cockswain USNR at the end of his service. After serving nearly 3 years, he came home and started working for Cobbledick Kibbe Glass Company. He later started his own company, Diamond Glass. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved daughter Jeanne Marie Valente, his brother Albert Valente and his wife Delores, his brother Richard Valente, his sister Elmira (Valente) Lane and her husband Frank, his sister Lena (Valente) Caparelli and her husband Jim, his brother Ralph Valente and his wife Adeline, his brother Joe Valente and his wife Agnes, his sister Liz (Valente) Moreali and her husband Tony, his sister Gloria (Valente) Moyano and her husband Ed, his sister Louise (Valente) Chavez and her husband Robert, his sister Barbara (Valente) Smith, her husband Bill and his brother Antone Valente and his wife Artie, and Les Matthews, the husband of his sister Val (Valente) Matthews. He is survived by his beloved wife Marge (Maggiore) Valente, his sister Val (Valente) Mathews and many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

A Service of remembrance will be held at 11:00am on Saturday December 1, 2018 at LIMA-CAMPAGNA-ALAMEDA MISSION CHAPEL, 600 S. 2nd Street, San Jose.
