Surrounded by immediate family and close friends, Philip Renelle passed away on Friday, August 4th in Redding, California at the age of 58. He suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm.

Phil was born and raised in Morgan Hill, California. He grew up on a tractor. Farming was in his blood. The family ranch is where he became an expert orchardist, where he raised horses and cattle, and grew hay.

He attended Live Oak High School and kept many of his classmates and neighbors as life-long friends. He went on to become a skilled brick mason, work for the City of Morgan Hill’s Public Works Department, and own a heavy equipment business.

Ever the Outdoorsman he moved to Redding California where he remained a member of the Operating Engineers Union, as a heavy equipment operator, until he went on to manage a large cattle ranch in Ono, California.

He took pride in his prolific gardens and was an excellent winemaker and cook, impressing everyone with his secret recipes.

Above all, he was an exemplary father, participating in every aspect of his children’s lives. He was always there to provide encouragement, skills and love. He was ecstatic over the birth of his granddaughter, Carson, now just nine months old.

He is survived by his daughters, Meghan Knippen (Tony Knippen) and Kendall Renelle; his stepson, Elliott Miller; his granddaughter, Carson Lily Knippen; and sisters, Daphne Renelle and Marlene Rinella. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Adeline Renelle.

A Celebration of Phil’s life will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, August 11, at LIMA-CAMPAGNA-JOHNSON FUNERAL HOME, 17720 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill. Interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill.
